Teensy Weensy Acting Class: Giraffes Can't Dance

Gerald the giraffe longs to dance. With crooked knees and thin legs, it's harder for a giraffe than you'd think! If you enjoy acting out stories on stage, join us to dance out this story of a giraffe that finds his own rhythm.

The Teensy Weensy Acting class is an opportunity for 3 to 5 year olds to gain confidence on the stage with the help of music, puppets, and props. If you have an active imagination and love telling stories on the stage, this class is for you! Family and friends are invited to join on the last day of class for a special 11am performance of Giraffes Can't Dance. Classes meet 3/21, 3/28, 4/4, and 4/11 with a final performance for family and friends on April 11th at 11am.

Meet the cats, learn their personalities and preferences, and use your imagination to draw portraits and write fanciful backstories for each of these unique fuzzy friends. Don't forget to catch the Museum & Theatre's dramatic adaptation of Puss in Boots on the main stage opening on Thursday April 12th and running through April vacation.

We're also collecting wet cat food for cats in need. If you have cans you'd like to donate, bring them to the Museum & Theatre collection site for the whole month of April. Funding for this project is provided by the Margaret E. Burnham Charitable Trust.

Each day offers a different theme, but the one thing you'll do for sure is...PLAY! Get a sneak peek behind the scenes and explore before the Museum & Theatre is open to the public. Thrive with a small group; we keep our camp size small so campers get the attention they need and deserve. Designed for ages 5-8. Snacks are provided.
Wednesday: Big, Messy Art Day Paint, drip, and splatter the morning away as we try splash painting in our backyard, create treasure boxes out of recycled materials, and paint with catapults.

Theatre Thursday Get a backstage tour of our Main Stage production, Puss in Boots. Play improvisational games with the actors, learn some tongue twisters, and sit with your friends to watch the show (with popcorn of course!)

Friday: Animal Engineering Discover all the ways we use animal adaptations to inspire and inform modern engineering! Be the engineer, test, explore, and build your own invention. Then meet live animals such as a fox, python, and owl, and see these amazing adaptations in real life.

The ultimate trickster, Puss in Boots uses his wits and bravery to turn a down-on-his-luck kid into the famous Count of Carabas! Complete with dancing shoes, crazy siblings, and a very ogre sing-along, this is a show you don't want to miss! Based on the fairy tales by Giovanni Francesco Straparola and Charles Perrault.

Adapted for our stage by Brent Askari and performed for children and their families by our company of young actors. Directed by Reba Short.

Produced with generous support from the Margaret E. Burnham Charitable Trust, this production is inspired by feline friends from the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

Note: We're also collecting canned cat food donations now throughout the month of April to deliver to ARGLP! Eight hundred cans will feed their cats for one month.

Do dragons really love tacos? What happens if you give a mouse a cookie? In this camp, we'll explore the world of cooking through some of our favorite story books and dramatic play. Each morning, we'll explore stories such as If You Give a Pig a Pancake and Green Eggs and Ham that will provide culinary inspiration for the rest of the day. We'll combine math, reading, and theater skills -- all while cooking up something delicious! Please be aware recipes used in this cooking camp are nut-free but may contain wheat, dairy, and other potential allergens.

Camps run Monday through Friday and includes a healthy snack and private playtime throughout the Museum & Theatre before open to the public.
