Evening Party

$350 for up to 50 people and exclusive access to all exhibits, and one staff member to supervise the event.

Some Common Questions about Birthday Parties


  • How do I book my event?

    You may fill out the online form on this page or call 207-828-1234 x232. Book early for best availability. Dates often fill up more than a month in advance. A $20 deposit ($30 for Evening Parties) is required when you make your reservation.
  • Do you have special Museum & Theatre invitations?

    We will send you a birthday party invitation template as an attachment with your confirmation letter, which you are welcome to print to create invitation cards for your party.
  • Some of my guests are members; do they count toward my total?

    Yes. The member discount is 10% off the base cost of the party. There are no additional discounts for members. These limits help keep the rooms from becoming uncomfortably crowded, and the minimum fee is based on the room rental.
  • Do additional guests, including adults and children, get in for free?

    Each additional guest beyond the specified numbers is $10 per person. There are no free adults. Babies under 18 months are always free, including when you book a party.
  • Do I need to provide you with a guest list?

    No. We will have a sign in sheet waiting when you arrive. We do ask that everyone else sign in, including those who receive free entry.
  • What do I need to bring?

    Paper products, cake, ice cream etc. If you would like to keep drinks cold we recommend bringing a cooler. Matches for candles and something to cut the cake with are also things to keep in mind. We provide a freezer for ice cream and plastic table covers. There will also be a broom and cleaning supplies in the room and we will take care of the trash.
  • Can I bring helium balloons?

    Balloons are welcome in the rented room, but we prefer that they do not travel around in the exhibit spaces. Due to the high ceilings in our Big Gallery we ask that all helium balloons be weighted or tethered, either together as a balloon bouquet, or tied individually to goodie bags.
  • Where is the best place to park?

    Please use the loading zone directly in front of our building to unload. Let us know you are here and we will provide you with a rolling cart to unload onto. Afterwards, you may proceed one block down Free Street and enter the Municipal Parking Garage on your right. Bring in the ticket from the garage and we will stamp it for a discount. The discounts are available to your guests as well. Street parking is free at the meters on Sunday. All other days it's $1.25 per hour with a 2 hour maximum. Please note: the lot next to the Museum & Theatre is owned by another business and is usually not available for public parking.
  • When can I arrive to set up?

    Please check in with the front desk on arrival. The party room is yours for the reserved 2-hour period, including set-up and clean-up. We recommend arriving 15 minutes before the party starts to unload your car. If booking a party when we are open to the public, you are welcome to come to play anytime during our regular hours and we will store your items until your party room is ready for you.
  • Can I order pizza to be delivered?

    Yes, there are many local restaurants who deliver pizza here. We recommend asking for delivery 15 minutes before you expect to serve it.
  • If I request a paid activity for my guests, when and where does it happen?

    The staff person who greets you will tell you what time your activity is scheduled. Face Painting happens in the room you have reserved. The Star Show happens in our Space Shuttle. Guests will be led to the Lights Camera Color Room on the third floor for the Camera Obscura show. The Tide Pool Touch Tank is on the second floor and is available only for Evening Parties.
  • Is there extra time at the end for clean up?

    If you plan for the celebration to take place during the hour in the middle of the two hour time slot, then you will have time for cleaning and packing up at the end. We do not offer extra time for clean up, because we transition the room for the next party right at the end of your timeslot.
  • When is payment due?

    Payment is due at the end of your party and it is based on how many people sign in. We ask that you agree to the terms in our birthday contract with your reservation. Please check out with the front desk at the end of your party.
  • How do people typically use their two-hour time slot?


    15 minutes before start: arrive, unload and check in
    1st half hour: set up while guests explore the Museum & Theatre
    Middle hour: call guests to the room for the celebration
    Final half hour: break down party and clean up while guests play
    As you leave: check out with the Front Desk
