Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Youth Play Innovator
Grades 3+
1 day per week: Tuesday after school (3:30pm-5:00pm) for a school quarter or trimester

Are you an elementary school student who is resourceful, curious, creative and assertive? Then apply to be one of our Youth Play Innovators! The Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine is looking for three volunteer Play Innovators to join our exhibits team. For real. This is an after-school opportunity to learn more about art and design, and help the Museum & Theatre create exciting new exhibits that YOU would want to see.

Play Volunteer
Ages 14+
Volunteer two hours a week for a season or more

Do you enjoy spending time with children? Are you looking for an important and meaningful way to give back to the Portland community while doing something you love? Volunteer at the Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine. Play and explore with children while leading activities such as playdough play, face painting, and tide pool touch tank programming. Play volunteers join the Museum & Theatre about two hours a week for a minimum of six months.

This volunteer position includes education training to empower volunteers to become meaningful Museum & Theatre educators. Be part of this vibrant community that serves over 110,000 visitors annually and share your unique talents.

Special Event Volunteer
Ages 14+
Volunteer on special events throughout the year

Help the Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine with spectacular experiences throughout the year. Volunteers help at major celebrations including the New Year’s Balloon Drop at Noon, Egg Hunt, Diwali, Dia de los Muertos, Halloween, the Annual Auction, and Joyful Children’s day, among others. Help decorate, welcome visitors, and apply your unique talents to make each community celebration special and memorable.

Visitor Service Volunteer
Ages 16+
Volunteer two hours a week for a season or more

Contribute your talents to enhancing the visitor's experience. Engage with visitors throughout Museum & Theatre exhibits, gain evaluation experience as you evaluate current museum practices, solicit visitor feedback, and assist with exhibit care. This position will provide insight into the best practices in visitor services for the Museum & Theatre.

Data Entry Volunteer
Ages 14+
Volunteer two hours a week for a season or more

Help the Museum & Theatre learn, grow, and serve our community. Work from home or from the Museum & Theatre to enter in data collected from education programs to help determine what is most successful. Data entry volunteers have flexible schedules. This role is critical to growing and improving the Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine.
