Based upon Across the Wide and Lonesome Prairie: The Oregon Trail Diary of Hattie Campbell (Dear America Series) by Kristiana Gregory, ©1997, Scholastic Inc.

In Across the Wide and Lonesome Prairie, two teenage girls embark upon the quintessential American adventure: traveling west with their families on the Oregon Trail in 1847. The action is sometimes boisterous, sometimes moving, and thoroughly relatable for young audiences. With just two characters (bright-eyed optimist Pepper Lewis and the cynical but kind-hearted Hattie Campbell), Across the Wide and Lonesome Prairie tells the tale of a wagon train's journey from Independence, Missouri to Oregon. Hattie and Pepper face heartbreaking losses along with moments of triumph.
Ideal for ages 6 & up.
