Parties at the Museum & Theatre are easy to plan, a cinch to host and fun for all ages. We offer a range of affordable party packages to fit celebrations large or small.

Playful Party 

Gather your guests in a special space just for birthdays!

Includes:

  • All day Museum & Theatre admission for your guests

  • 2 hours of private party time in the Birthday Room during normal business hours (10am-5pm)

  • Rolling cart to move your items in and out of the party space

  • Printable invitations to personalize and send to your guests

Price: $200 for up to 20 people in the birthday room. Additional party attendees are $10 each and babies 17 months and under are free. Members receive a 10% discount on the base price of the party. 

A $20 non-refundable deposit will be payable once your reservation has been confirmed. Please be advised that without your deposit, the room will not be guaranteed for you. The maximum capacity for the Birthday Room is 25 people.

Super Celebration: Theatre

Celebrate in super style with costumes and a stage!

Includes:

  • All day Museum & Theatre admission for your guests

  • 2 hours of private party time in the Theatre during normal business hours (10am-5pm)

Price: $300 for up to 30 people in the Ranger Station or Theatre. Additional party attendees are $10 each and babies 17 months and under are free. Members receive a 10% discount on the base price of the party. 

A $30 non-refundable deposit will be payable once your reservation has been confirmed. Please be advised that without your deposit, the room will not be guaranteed for you. The maximum capacity for the Theatre is 50 people.

Evening Party

It's a child's dream come true: having the run of the Museum & Theatre! A truly special gift to both the birthday child and your guests.

Includes:

  • 2 hours of private play time in the entire Museum & Theatre when it is closed to the public

  • Rolling cart to move your items in and out of the party space

  • Printable invitations to personalize and send to your guests

  • Face Painting is available for evening parties at no additional fee

  • Evening parties are offered from 5:30-7:30pm or 6-8pm 

Price: $400 for up to 50 people and exclusive access to all exhibits, and one staff member to supervise the event.  Members receive a 10% discount on the base price of the party. 

A $40 non-refundable deposit will be payable once your reservation has been confirmed. Please be advised that without your deposit, the room will not be guaranteed for you. Maximum capacity is 50 people.

 

Birthday Party FAQ

How do I book my event?

You may fill out the online form on this page or call 207-828-1234 x232. Book early for best availability. Dates often fill up more than a month in advance. A deposit is required when you make your reservation.

Do you have special Museum & Theatre invitations?

We will send you a birthday party invitation template as an attachment with your confirmation letter, which you are welcome to print to create invitation cards for your party.

Some of my guests are members; do they count toward my total?

Yes. We ask everyone to sign in. Party fees are based on the room rental so membership free admission does not apply to party guests. Members booking a party receive 10% off the base party cost.

Do additional guests, including adults and children, get in for free?

Each additional guest beyond the specified numbers is $10 per person. There are no free adults. Babies 17 months and under are always free, including when you book a party.

Do I need to provide you with a guest list?

No. We will have a sign in sheet waiting when you arrive. We will ask everyone attending your party to sign in, including you and the birthday child.

What do I need to bring?

Paper products, cake, ice cream etc. If you would like to keep drinks cold we recommend bringing a cooler. Matches for candles and something to cut the cake with are also things to keep in mind. We provide plastic table covers. We are happy to put your ice cream in our freezer. There will also be a broom and cleaning supplies in the room and we will take care of the trash.

Can I bring helium balloons?

Balloons are welcome in the rented room, but we prefer that they do not travel around in the exhibit spaces. Due to the high ceilings in our exhibits we ask that all helium balloons be weighted or tethered, either together as a balloon bouquet, or tied individually to goodie bags.

Where is the best place to park?

Please use the loading zone directly in front of our building to unload. Let us know you are here and we will provide you with a rolling cart to unload onto. Afterwards, you may proceed one block down Free Street and enter the Municipal Parking Garage on your right. Bring in the ticket from the garage and we will stamp it for a discount. The discounts are available to your guests as well. Street parking is free at the meters on Sunday. All other days it's $1.75 per hour with a 2 hour maximum. Please note: the lot next to the Museum & Theatre is owned by another business and is usually not available for public parking.

When can I arrive to set up?

Please check in with the front desk on arrival. The party room is yours for the reserved 2-hour period, including set-up and clean-up. We recommend arriving 15 minutes before the party starts to unload your car. If booking a party when we are open to the public, you are welcome to come to play anytime during our regular hours (10am-5pm) and we will store your items until your party room is ready for you.

Can I order pizza to be delivered?

Yes, there are many local restaurants who deliver pizza here. We recommend asking for delivery 15 minutes before you expect to serve it.

Is there extra time at the end for clean up?

If you plan for the celebration to take place during the hour in the middle of the two hour time slot, then you will have time for cleaning and packing up at the end. We do not offer extra time for clean up, because we transition the room for the next party right at the end of your timeslot.

When is payment due?

Payment is due at the end of your party and it is based on how many people sign in. We ask that you agree to the terms in our birthday contract with your reservation. Please check out with the front desk at the end of your party.

How do people typically use their two-hour time slot?

  • 15 minutes before start: arrive, unload and check in 

  • 1st half hour: set up while guests explore the Museum & Theatre 

  • Middle hour: call guests to the room for the celebration 

  • Final half hour: break down party and clean up while guests play 

  • As you leave: check out with the Front Desk

  • You are welcome to play in the exhibit areas before or after the two hour window based on Museum & Theatre hours

Located in the heart of Portland’s Arts District we offer a unique, playful setting for memorable parties. Spanning four floors, our historic building features innovative exhibits designed to inspire discovery and imagination, entertaining and delighting guests of all ages. 

MUSEUM RENTALS

Facility Rentals are offered evenings beginning at 5:30pm or 6pm and include:

  • Exclusive use of the Museum & Theatre’s exhibits with capacity for up to 400 guests

  • Tour of the Museum & Theatre and event planning assistance

  • Access to chairs, tables and table coverings set up in advance of your event

  • List of area caterers upon request

  • Small kitchen available for catering needs

  • Experienced Museum & Theatre staff on-hand to support your function

  • Option to include special Museum & Theater educator-led programming

  • Convenient loading zone and parking validated for a discount at the Spring Street Municipal Parking Garage (please bring your parking ticket to the Museum & Theatre with you when you arrive for ticket validation)

Rates for 2 hours, including set-up and breakdown:

  • Events for up for 50 people: $450

  • 51-150 people: $550

  • 151-250 people: $650

  • 251-400 people: $750

Additional time beyond 2 hours: $225 per hour

Non-profit organizations with 501(c)(3) status receive a 20% discount.
