Charlotte’s Web

Based upon the story by E.B. White

Dramatized by Joseph Robinette

Some Pig. Terrific. Radiant. Humble. These are the words spun in Charlotte's Web, high up in Zuckerman's barn. These words are the scheming of a clever spider, determined to save the life of Wilbur, an irresistible young pig. Based on E. B. White's Newbery Honor Book, this play is a tender story of friendship, love, life, and loss that will continue to enchant generations to come.

Caleb was also the spring Technical Theatre Intern for Maddy’s Theater, and he directed Finding Sheila by Zack Handlen and The Legend of the Night Moose by Megan E. Caleb has received multiple awards regionally and nationally for his directing, design, and collaboration work from the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival and the Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas. Caleb attended both Northern Vermont University and SUNY Plattsburgh, having studied Theatre with a focus in Directing. Caleb is a strong advocate for accessibility in theater, underrepresented artists and works, and consent-based work practices. Many thanks to Reba, the cast, the crew, and the staff at CMTM for their hard work and support with this production. @caleb.v.e

Savannah Irish - Actor 2: Mrs. Arable / Charlotte / voice: baby spiders

Savannah (She/Her/Hers) is exhilarated to be back on stage with Maddy’s Theatre for their Centennial Season! You may recognize her as Mama Bear in Blueberries For Sal: The Musical last summer or from a one woman show as Dust Cloud in The Girl Who Swallowed A Cactus in fall of 2021. After earning her BA in Theatre with a minor in music from USM, she began her theatrical career in Florida where she worked at Walt Disney WorldⓇ as an Entertainment Costumer. Most recently she appeared in Dance Nation as Maeve with Mad Horse Theatre Company. Irish has worked with many local theaters including; Mad Horse, The Theater Project, The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine, Ziggurat Theatre Ensemble, and Camden Shakespeare Festival. When not in the theater she enjoys WAY too much coffee, gazing at the moon, & watching spooky movies. Savannah Irish is a proud Mad Horse Theatre Company Member since 2022. She would like to dedicate this performance to the strongest woman she knows, her Mother, and for showing her the meaning of true inner strength, perseverance, and the drive to always help others.

Brie Roche - Actor 3: Fern / Goose / Spectator / Judge

Brie (she/her) is a graduate of the University of Southern Maine's teaching and history undergraduate program. During her time there, she was recognized for her research in women's history and the history of those often forgotten. Currently, Brie performs in local musical theater productions as well as at children's parties with Brie's Best Guests and Jurassic Jo's Dinos. When not on stage, she works as an education specialist for The Osher Map Library and Smith Center for Cartography, teaching about historic maps and primary sources all around Maine. Brie’s educational and professional career has consistently revolved around making learning fun, accessible, and engaging. Brie is thrilled to help tell this story about unexpected friendships. To her core, Brie, like Fern, is a girl who loves animals.

Heather Irish - Actor 4: Mr. Arable / Templeton / Lurvey

Heather (she/her) is thrilled to be involved in her first production with Maddy’s Theatre. A local actor and props designer, she has worked with Good Theater, Portland Stage Company, Theater at Monmouth, and The Public Theatre. Training: Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (London, UK).

Jared Mongeau - Actor 5: Avery / Homer Zuckerman / Sheep / Spectator / Judge

Jared (he/him) is so excited to be back on the Maddy’s Theatre stage after appearing in Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The Musical!, Dragon’s Love Tacos, and as a special guest with Aardvark Boat Tours! Growing up, he appeared with the Children’s Theatre of Maine back when it was on Marginal Way in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and Lion Hunting on Munjoy Hill. He began his professional performance career as a clown with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus, where he criss-crossed the country with two tours living on a train. He is an MFA graduate of Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre in CA, studied mask-making and traditional performance in Bali, Indonesia, and played accordion across Europe with his old band, That Dog Was a Band Now. In the Portland area he has worked as an actor with Portland Stage, Good Theater, Mad Horse Theatre Co., The Portland Theater Festival, Camden Shakespeare Fest, Ziggurat Theatre Ensemble, and The Theater Project. He is learning how to play the banjo.

Matthew Butcher - Actor 6: Narrator / Gander / Reporter / Uncle the Pig / President of the Fair

Matthew (he/him) is thrilled to make his Maddy’s Theatre debut with this exceedingly welcoming and talented team. It’s a true delight to work with people who enjoy performing and creating wonderful worlds for audiences both small and tall. He recently appeared in Fenix Theatre Co’s production of The Tempest (Gonzalo) and Three Sheets’ award-winning Philadelphia FringeArts show Next Chapter (reader). Before the events of the last few years, he performed with the Washington National Opera as a stage combatant, performed on an ancient stage in Greece, and completed a Shakespeare certificate program at LAMDA. He is forever grateful for the constant support and encouragement of his friends, his family, and his partner, without whom none of this would have been possible in the first place.

Bryanne MacMillan - Understudy: Actor 1 & Actor 3

Bryanne (they/them) is thrilled to be joining Maddy’s Theatre at the start of their centennial season! Originally from Prince Edward Island, Canada, they’ve been working in Maine as an early childhood educator for 6 years. They have performed with community theatres throughout southern Maine, and are excited to be stepping onto a new stage with such an amazing cast and crew!

Allison McCall - Understudy: Actor 1 & Actor 4

Allison (she/her) is normally found as the Theatre Company Coordinator of Maddy’s Theatre, and is delighted to be joining these wonderful friends on stage. Her very first theatre memory is a student production of Charlotte’s Web at Falmouth High School at age 6, after avidly reading this story over-and-over throughout her childhood. Allison holds a BA in Theatre and Art History from Muhlenberg College; studied Performance Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London; and has been a proud member of Mad Horse Theatre Company since 2015. When not in a theatre, she loves climbing mountains and playing with her pup Ichabod, and she has a secret talent for catching frogs with her hands. @sonnymccall421

Jason Iannone - Understudy: Actor 5 & Actor 6

Jason (he/him) acts, writes, and other-stuffs. He discovered the stage in 2018 and has been on an acting quest ever since. Recent credits: Maitland (Chalk Garden, Heartwood Regional Theatre Company), Magwitch (Great Expectations, Lakewood Theatre), and Dr. Sean (Halfway There, Footlights Theatre). He has also appeared in multiple independent films, such as the historical slave-era drama The Bell Affair and the upcoming political dystopian drama Chapman Speaks. Every holiday season, Santa whisks Jason away to the magical land of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, where he guides kids on a magical (and cocoa-fueled) Polar Express Train Ride to the North Pole. Jason also wrote a book of humorous essays called Make Me Feel Beautiful (available now on Amazon and most essays are still topical!). One of his ten-minute plays, You First, just had its first-ever production at the Windham Center Stage Theater, and he is currently revising his first full-length play. When away from the stage, screen, and paper: Jason is an Ed. Tech, a husband, a father of one, a step-father of three, and a loyal servant to his cat, dog, turtle, and pleco fish. Big thanks to his wife Holly for her eternal love and support, and to Maddy's Theater for providing this amazing opportunity and experience.

Samantha Roche - Stage Manager
Samantha (she/her) is thrilled to be returning to the Maddy's Theater team as stage manager, previously managing Gruff! Emily M. Dixon - Scenic Design
Emily (she/her) spent the past fifteen years working as a teacher, designer, performer, stage manager, camp director, and overall theater enthusiast before finding her home as the Technical Coordinator at CMTM. She has previously directed Dragons Love Tacos and Gruff! An Epic Fairytale Eco-Musical for Maddy’s Theatre, and numerous set designs and builds.

Phoebe Little - Costume Design
Phoebe got her start in costume design while working on the Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine's 2012 production of Sleeping Beauty.
