Message From Reba
Creating theatre = creating MAGIC.
The magic starts small – a rehearsal finding its rhythm, an actor discovering their voice, and a theatre coming alive with detail and intention. Here at the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine, the magic compounds. It courses through the community, into a season and becomes powerful enough to power the hope of a small and beautiful city.
In this moment, we all need a little perspective-taking. There aren’t many chances to practice this skill, but theatre is one of them. Through stories, we step into someone else’s point of view. We practice empathy. We imagine caring for each other.
By coming together to flex our empathy muscles, we are building community, one story at a time. These stories, filled with hope, resilience and connection are the perfect way to start. In the unpredictable currents of FINDING NEMO, Marlin’s dedication and love carry him across an entire ocean to find his son. In the snowy chaos of THE PIGEON GETS A BIG TIME HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA, determination and grit carry that Pigeon forward. In THANK YOU, OMU!, one grandmother’s generosity ripples through an entire neighborhood. And in ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND, it’s Alice’s imagination that reminds her who she is, and of her “muchness.”
Through theatre we see glimpses of the world we want – one where people care fiercely for one another, where communities show up for their neighbors, where bravery matters, and where joy has a place. That is what the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine provides. A space where every rehearsal, every production meeting, every artist, school group, family, and audience member who enters through our doors is part of something bigger.
Thank you for coming to the theatre today. Thank you for bringing someone you love to the theatre today. You’re helping to build the magic of this future world that we all are looking forward to.
With joy,
Reba Askari
