April Break: Special Guests at CMTM
April Break in Maine calls for a place to shake off your cabin fever—and the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine delivers!
While school’s out, come to CMTM to climb, create, explore, and learn all day long. Burn off extra energy in our indoor climber, get inspired in MakerSpace with interactive activities, and explore the exhibits throughout the building. Want to add a little Theatre magic? Catch a performance of Shrek The Musical: Theatre for Young Audiences Version in CMTM’s Maddy’s Theatre (additional tickets required).
Every day of the week features special, educator-led activities designed to spark curiosity—from creative builds and art projects to up-close encounters with real live creatures. There’s always something new to discover!

Discover Creatures with Sparks’ Ark!
Saturday, April 18, 1 pm
See animals such as a sugar glider, chinchilla, owl, and boa in this interactive program that brings the outdoors in. Sparks’ Arc combines over 30 years of experience in wildlife care to educate and inspire curiosity. Through close-up encounters, participants gain a deeper understanding of animal behavior, habitats, and the importance of coexistence with local wildlife.
Singin’ Storytime with Mx. Lindz

Join local troubadour Mx. Lindz for Singin’ Storytime at the Children's Museum! Together, we'll sing songs, tell stories, and have a little bit of fun along the way. Perfect for kids and kids-at-heart.
Animal Adaptations with Chewonki

Meet live animals and explore animal adaptations with educators from Chewonki. Webbed feet, camouflaged fur, or spines on their back are all amazing ways that animals use adaptations to survive in the wild everyday. Families will learn about adaptations, try on fun costumes, and see firsthand how three of our live, non-releasable animals have adaptations that help them thrive in their specific habitats, including our local marine habitat.
Wiggle and Dance Party!

Shake off the last of winter and step into spring with music, movement, and imagination at the Wiggle and Dance Party in Maddy’s Theatre! A professional DJ keeps the beats pumping while you try out new dance moves, show off your silliest wiggles, and let your creativity bloom on the dance floor. It’s the perfect way to welcome spring—gather your friends, bring your best moves, and get ready to hop, twirl, and groove your way into the new season!
Elephant Toothpaste Demonstration with the USM Chemistry Club

Watch the USM Chemistry Club create a giant, fast-foaming “elephant toothpaste” eruption! This quick, colorful reaction shows how simple ingredients can make big chemistry happen. After the demo, stick around for a Q&A with the USM chemistry scientists to learn more about the world and profession of chemistry.
Birds of Prey with the Center for Wildlife

What is the difference between a hawk and a falcon? Do vultures live in Maine? Meet live ambassador birds from the Center of Wildlife and use interactive materials to explore birds of prey found in the land we now call Maine.

Jurassic Jo's returns to Maddy’s Theatre to share fun facts about dinosaurs! These shows will feature a dino handler and an interactive dinosaur. Participants will have the chance to touch real dinosaur fossils, ask the dino handler questions, and maybe even pet a dinosaur!
