MR. MAGEE ADVENTURES ONTO A SEA BAGS TOTE TO SUPPORT THE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM & THEATRE OF MAINE

Best-selling children’s book author Chris Van Dusen is often referred to by children as “Mr. Magee” - a reference to the beloved main character from his well-known children’s book. In Down to the Sea with Mr. Magee, Mr. Magee goes on epic ocean adventures from which he and his dog Dee always return safely home. Van Dusen is a friend to children from all over the world through his storytelling and lively illustrations, and he’s also a good friend to Maine families through his long-time partnership with the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine. Van Dusen has worked with the Museum & Theatre to design their current popular outdoor exhibit, Chris Van Dusen’s Down to the Sea: An Outdoor Adventure and to develop a children’s theatre performance of The Circus Ship, another of his best-selling books. Now, Van Dusen is supporting children again through a collaboration with Sea Bags, a Maine-based designer and fabricator of functional and stylish totes from reclaimed sail cloth. Sea Bags will produce a special bag featuring an iconic image from Down to the Sea with Mr. Magee by Chris Van Dusen, with a portion of the proceeds being donated back to the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine.

This limited edition Down to the Sea Tote will support Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine with 20% of each bag to go toward funding learning through play opportunities for all children and families.

The Museum & Theatre is thrilled to have the generous support of Sea Bags and Chris Van Dusen on this exciting project! Integrating Maine’s rich culture and heritage in our work is a critical priority. That means we connect with local artists and authors and work with local businesses to accomplish our mission to inspire discovery and imagination. Bringing a storybook to life through this playful, recycled sailcloth bag will bring Chris’ story into the community in a new way while contributing to the Museum & Theatre’s work nurturing healthy children and families.
