CMTM Celebrates AAPI Heritage Month!

It is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, and CMTM is celebrating with a variety of programs and activities!

In the Celebrate AAPI Artists MakerSpace program, guests have the chance to learn about influential AAPI artists, explore their artistic styles, and create masterpieces inspired by these artists’ work.

There are two dates to join in on the fun:

May 3, 12:30 pm -1:15 pm, MakerSpace

Celebrate AAPI Artists: Pacita Abad - Pacita Abad was born in the Philippines and travels the world making mix-media art. Visitors will experiment with patterns and layering different materials during this hands-on, creative program. Included with admission.

May 10, 12:30 pm-1:15 pm, MakerSpace

Celebrate AAPI Artists: Chiura Obata - Chiura Obata was a Japanese immigrant who came to the US at the turn of the 20th century. Obata was placed in an internment camp in California during WWII. After starting an art school in the internment camp, Obata went on to become an influential art professor at UC Berkeley for over 20 years. Obata specializes in Japanese ink painting and made several watercolors of the American landscape that he later turned into block prints. Visitors will emulate Obata’s work with watercolors and draw inspiration from Thompson's Point’s unique landscape. Included with admission.
