Puppets in Portland: Krystal Puppeteers of Kenya perform Tears by the Rivers at Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine

The Krystal Puppeteers of Kenya will perform “Tears By The River” at 11: 00 AM on September 24 and 25 at the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine. The Krystal Puppeteers will additionally offer dance and music workshops at 2: 00 PM each day that consists of hands-on music and dance lessons and the opportunity to interact with the puppets used in Krystal Puppeteers' performance.

Artist in Residency Series: Palaver Strings

Portland-based Palaver Strings, a musician-led string ensemble, will perform and engage visitors at “pop-up studios” beginning this September at the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine. Visitors to the Museum & Theatre will experience music performances, exhibits about music appreciation, and music-related workshops.

Amazing trained turtles!

This summer, our intern Marley worked on target training our eastern box turtles (and Museum & Theatre ambassadors), Marie and Arnie. Target training involves training the turtles to tap their nose on a cherry ball. Once completed, Marley clicks a clicker and administers a treat. Marley used their experience with operant conditioning and dog training to help them understand how to approach this
project.

Maddy’s Theatre Welcomes Michael J. Bobbitt

Maddy’s Theatre at The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine has launched their second season at Thompson’s Point with the Maine classic Blueberries for Sal: The Musical. Blueberries for Sal was adapted for the stage by Michael J. Bobbitt, who is currently the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, serves on the board for the New England Foundation of the Arts, and has a prolific background in theatre leadership and creative works for young audiences. Bobbitt is attending the Blueberries for Sal: The Musical performance on Sunday, July 31st at 3pm, with a community talk-back to follow. The talk-back is free and will include members of the cast and production team.
