General Admission: $12.50 per person. Babies 17 months & under play for free.

Free & Discounted Admissions

We don’t turn anyone away who can’t afford admission.

  • Member discounts: admission for Museum & Theatre members is FREE year round! Members also receive a 10% discount on theatre performances, store purchases, workshops, and events.

  • First Fridays: on the first Friday of every month, the Museum & Theatre is open late from 5-8pm. During that time admission is $2 per person.

  • Group rate (requires advance booking): $8.50-$9.50. For details on group visits, please click here.

  • Military Discount: Good for 10% off admission with a valid military, military family, or veteran id.

  • Senior Discount: Good for 10% off admission for the senior(s) in question

  • Two-day Pass: $18 per person. Contact the front desk for purchase.

  • Library Discount: Check with your library to see if they're a member and get details on how to use this discount for reduced price admission!

  • Non-profit Discount: Check with your non-profit organization to see if they're a member and get details on how to use this discount!

    AAA Discount: Good for 10% off admission with a current AAA card

    ACM Reciprocal Network Admission: Half off regular admission for up to 6 people; one member named on the card must be present. Member card and identification should be presented.

    Reduced, affordable admission through Museums for All: If you have an EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) card, simply show it when you arrive to pay $3 admission per person (saving $8.50). Through Museums for All, we're partnering with museums across the country to make sure everyone can experience the best museums have to offer. Driving from I-295 N or I-295 S:

  • Take exit 6-A (Forest Ave. South).

  • Bear right at the lights onto Rt. 77 South and proceed through the park.

  • Continue up the hill (Rt. 77/State Street).

  • At the top of the hill take a left onto Congress Street.

  • Proceed 1/5 mile, cross High Street and immediately bear right onto Free Street.

  • The Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine is on the right.

Parking

Discounted parking is available at the Spring Street Garage, an indoor municipal parking garage accessible via Free Street located one block past the Museum & Theatre. There are entrances on both Free Street and Spring Street. Be sure to bring your ticket in for us to stamp to receive the discount.

Metered parking is available in two hour increments on Free Street and on many streets in the surrounding area. Meters are $1.50 per hour and take nickels, dimes and quarters. (Several Free Street spaces use a Multi-Space Pay Station, which also accepts bills and credit and debit cards.)  If you come to visit us on Sunday, street parking is FREE!

On extremely busy days, you might find the nearest lots and garages full. Try the Gateway Garage on High Street, just a 4 minute walk from the Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine, or one of the many local lots on our parking map.

Public Transit Directions

Most METRO and South Portland bus routes travel within a block of the Museum & Theatre.

  • Routes #1, #3 and #8 stop at Congress Square (just across Congress Street from the Museum & Theatre)

  • Routes #2, #4 and #5 stop at Congress Street and Forest Avenue (about one block away)

  • Routes #6 and #7 stop at Monument Square (about four blocks away)

  • Route #5 travels to/from the Portland Transportation Center (hub for the Amtrak Downeaster and Concord Coach bus lines)
