You're Invited To A Taco Party!

Our dragons show us how the freedom of being yourself can give you a passion for life (and tacos). No matter how you look, what you wear, who you love, or what kind of tacos you like, you are welcome here.
— Emily Dixon

The dragons in this play represent the freedom of being yourself. They are confident in who they are, what they look like, and how they act. Red Dragon is always looking out for her friends, making sure they are taken care of and included. White Dragon is so happy to have everyone together that they sometimes get too excited and trip over their own two feet. Blue Dragon is shy, but through kindness and compassion she finds comfort in her new friends. And while Yellow Dragon is a jokester, she is always finding ways to cheer for her friends and make people smile. They are all fabulous, kind, silly, fun, loving, energetic, and above all, they are resilient.

Resilience is getting up after you fall down. In rebuilding a house you burned down after accidentally eating spicy salsa, or in finishing your homework after you almost gave up. It’s standing up, loud and proud, and facing a world that believes you may not really exist. These traits are what I see in our dragons, and they are what I see in my LGBTQ+ family. The movement for equality and acceptance has always found strength in resilience. Every day, we stand up as our true selves and show the world we belong. In the wake of legislation across the country targeting LGBTQ+ youth and families, it feels more important than ever to have representation of our community onstage. To show that we are resilient. We are strong. We are driven, beautiful, kind, and we aren’t going anywhere.

Offering honest and authentic representation of different kinds of self-expression is healthy for our children. Clothing has always been a way of expressing yourself. By wearing your favorite band on a t-shirt, or your favorite color in a dress, or silly socks that make you giggle, you are sharing a piece of yourself with the world. The confidence that comes with being yourself is, in itself, a strength and resilience. Our dragons show us how the freedom of being yourself can give you a passion for life (and tacos). No matter how you look, what you wear, who you love, or what kind of tacos you like, you are welcome here.
