Best-selling children’s book author Van Dusen is often referred to by children as “Mr. Magee” - a reference to the beloved main character from his well-known children’s book: Down to the Sea with Mr. Magee. Van Dusen has worked with the Museum & Theatre to design our outdoor exhibit, Chris Van Dusen’s Down to the Sea: An Outdoor Adventure featuring Mr. Magee and his little dog Dee as they head out in a boat along the Maine Coast and get into BIG trouble with a whale. Van Dusen’s newest book “If I Built a School” is #3 on the New York Times bestseller list.

Now, Van Dusen is collaborating with the Museum & Theatre with Sea Bags, a Maine-based designer and fabricator of totes from reclaimed sail cloth. Sea Bags will produce a special bag featuring an iconic image from Down to the Sea with Mr. Magee by Chris Van Dusen, with a portion of the proceeds being donated back to the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine.
