JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

ADULT ACTORS FOR STELLALUNA (TEMPORARY)

POSITION PURPOSE

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine (CMTM) is seeking adult actors for the musical STELLALUNA, adapted for the stage by Saskia Janse, based on the book by Janell Cannon with music by Guus Ponsioen. This show will perform in CMTM’s Maddy’s Theatre in winter 2026.

Actors work closely with the production director and castmates, including youth actors. They report directly to the Theatre Production Manager.

Character Descriptions: STELLALUNA

We are seeking three adult performers for ensemble roles.

This piece brings its characters to life through physical theatre, music, and visual storytelling, and the ensemble will be built around the unique artistic strengths of the cast. Performers with backgrounds in movement, music, puppetry, or visual art are strongly encouraged to apply.

The production will integrate American Sign Language (ASL) as a core element of its storytelling. ASL fluency or semi-fluency is required for casting in this production.

POSITION SUMMARY 

  • Attend rehearsals and take notes 

  • Memorize blocking, choreography, music parts, and lines

  • Work as a team through the rehearsal process to develop the world of the play

  • Take notes and direction from the directing team 

  • Mentorship and role modeling for the youth performers of the ensemble

  • Honor the rehearsal and call schedule, including responsible communication around conflict(s)

  • Uphold the integrity of the production during performances

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Energized by CMTM’s mission and values (listed below)

  • Experience working in professional and/or community theatre settings is a plus

  • Experience working in children’s theatre is a plus

  • Dedication to creating theatre for family audiences

  • Excellent organizational and classroom management skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Available for the duration of the rehearsal and performance process. Actors will be asked to disclose conflicts, which will factor into the casting process. Additional conflicts disclosed after casting may affect your position in the show.

  • Work with kids and teens from the crew program during performances

  • Actors with unique physical, artistic, and/or musical abilities are encouraged to apply

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF WORKPLACE / ROLE

  • High-energy performances 

  • It is expected that lines, songs, and blocking will be memorized

  • Blocking and choreography may include sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, running, squatting, jumping, and reaching.

  • There is dark blue light backstage and bright lights onstage. 

  • Noise level varies between loud and quiet.

  • Actors may be asked to assist with scene changes as needed.

  • Actors may be asked to puppeteer

SCHEDULE

Temporary per diem position, 8-10 hours per week in person from December 1, 2025, to January 22, 2026. 

Rehearsals take place from 6-8:30 PM Monday through Thursday. Tech week schedule includes additional hours.

Performances take place at 11 AM on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and at 11 AM and 3 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. Additional performances are scheduled during February vacation.

An additional week of performances is on hold in case of show cancellations due to winter weather.

STELLALUNA Production Calendar Draft

An orientation for adult actors will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 from 5-8 PM.

COMPENSATION

$18.23 / hour 

Earned Paid Leave (EPL): 1 hour of paid leave for every 40 hours worked. 

EPL accumulated but not used is paid to the employee at the end of the temporary employment.


CMTM has a system of pay that offers a base rate based on position. This system is designed for equity, and as such, we do not have the ability to negotiate the compensation listed above. 

HOW TO APPLY

Auditions will be held in-person on Tuesday, October 1,4, and Wednesday, October 15 by appointment. Potential call-backs will be held the following week. Actors must submit an Audition Form to state their interest, and a member of the theatre team will be in touch to confirm the audition slot.
