JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Production Director of Artistic Integration of ASL (CONTRACTED POSITION)

POSITION PURPOSE

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine (CMTM) is looking for an ASL Production Director of Artistic Integration of American Sign Language (ASL) to help incorporate signing into the upcoming production of Stellaluna (set to open in February 2026). This position will work closely with the production director, music director, choreographer, design team, and adult and youth actors. 

POSITION SUMMARY 

  • Support the production director’s vision in bringing the play to life

  • Work with the production director to identify moments where ASL enhances the storytelling of the production. 

  • Work with the choreographer and music director to seamlessly integrate signing into the music and movement of the play.

  • Coach adult and youth actors of varying skill levels to learn and understand the lines that need to be signed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Energized by CMTM’s mission and values (listed below)

  • Experience working in professional and/or community theatre settings a plus

  • Dedication to creating theatre for family audiences

  • Fluent or semi-fluent in American Sign Language

  • Experience teaching or interpreting American Sign Language

  • Experience working with children ages 10-17 is a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF WORKPLACE

  • Comfort attending in-person rehearsals 

  • Comfort attending virtual meetings

  • Rehearsal rooms can range from noisy to subdued volumes depending on the cast size and type of show

  • Well-lit, LED fluorescent work lights during the rehearsal period. Dark house and stage lights during tech week. 

SCHEDULE

Rehearsals take place from 6:00 - 8:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, December 1, 2025 - January 30, 2026. A detailed call schedule will be provided once casting is complete. The DASL will not be required to attend all rehearsals, and, in consultation with the director, will determine which rehearsals are most suitable to attend. Not to exceed 55 hours.

An orientation will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 from 5-8 PM.

COMPENSATION

A $1000 stipend, to be paid January 30, 2026, once the show has opened and with documentation of time spent.
