Marketing & Communications Coordinator
POSITION PURPOSE
Help set the stage for all children to imagine and learn through play as CMTM’s Marketing & Communications Coordinator. The Marketing & Communications Coordinator reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications and supports and collaborates on implementing a strategic communications and marketing plan.
The Marketing & Communications Coordinator is part of the Advancement Team. In addition to this position, the Advancement Team consists of the Executive Director, Director of Marketing & Communications, Development Director, Development Manager, and Marketing & Communications Assistant.
The Marketing & Communications Coordinator contributes to the organization through an array of marketing and communication initiatives. These include the coordination and execution of the annual marketing and communications plan and communications calendar, highlighting programming, promoting events and programs to increase participation, enhancing philanthropic support, showcasing community engagement and partnerships, and, ultimately, playing a crucial role in telling the story of the Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine.
POSITION SUMMARY
COMMUNICATIONS PLANNING
Coordinate across the organization to develop a monthly Communications Calendar, approved by the Director of Marketing & Communications, integrating organizational events, programming, goals, and objectives. Ensure proper transfer to Asana for planning and scheduling purposes.
CONTENT CREATION AND COORDINATION
Generate and schedule brand-aligned content (e.g., social posts, blogs, stories, videos, photos) using tools like Sprout Social, Canva, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Squarespace and other approved applications.
Schedule and publish content to relevant platforms, including CMTM social media channels, Google, the CMTM Squarespace website, Google Business, community calendars, and others.
Coordinate with internal teams to align and communicate key updates, news, and promotional needs for visitor services, programming and education, exhibits, and theatre initiatives.
DESIGN AND DISTRIBUTION OF MATERIALS
Design, print, and coordinate the distribution of promotional materials for events, shows, campaigns, and programming.
Conceptualize and design multi-channel marketing campaigns and promotional initiatives that drive attendance, boost engagement, and elevate brand awareness across museum, theatre, and educational offerings.
EMAIL COMMUNICATIONS
Draft, schedule, and send e-newsletters in accordance with an editorial calendar in collaboration with relevant CMTM departments.
Create and design email templates in Constant Contact.
PLATFORM UPDATES AND MAINTENANCE
Maintain and update hours and community listings across relevant platforms.
Coordinate with the Director of Marketing & Communications to maintain and manage the CMTM website.
Maintain ADA compliance and best practices across the CMTM website.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Monitor and respond to feedback from followers, members, and visitors online, coordinating with appropriate team members when needed (via Sprout Social, Google, CMTM’s e social channels, and business listings).
EVENT AND PROGRAM SUPPORT AND PROMOTION
Assist the organization and specialized teams (e.g., Theatre, Visitor Engagement, Marketing & Communications, Development, and Education & Exhibits) in promoting opportunities, programs, and events.
Coordinate and maintain notes and a marketing checklist related to events and teams with colleagues to ensure timeliness and alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
Assist in the planning and execution of cultivation, fundraising, and media events.
TEAM COLLABORATION AND MENTORSHIP
Provide support to the Marketing & Communications Assistant and mentorship to interns as appropriate.
STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT
Support CMTM’s Strategic Plan and organizational goals through specific actions as identified by the Marketing & Communications team and supervisor.
CROSS-DEPARTMENT COLLABORATION
Participate in relevant cross-departmental meetings.
Conduct weekly floor checks and provide front desk coverage as needed.
ADDITIONAL PROJECTS
Complete other projects and assignments as they develop
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study or equivalent
One to two years of relevant experience in marketing and communications
Successful candidates will have excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills and keyboarding skills
Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and social media platforms required. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and website publishing is a plus
Experience with photo, video, and graphic design skills is a plus
Prior experience in the non-profit sector or with mission-driven organizations is appreciated

SCHEDULE
40 hours per week (full-time), Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm with potential for up to 1 or 2 remote days per week.
COMPENSATION
Compensation $50,440 / year plus $12,000 annual benefit pay, which can be used toward a cafeteria plan of benefits including health insurance (3 options, HSA available), dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, short & long-term disability, critical illness insurance, accident insurance, 403b (retirement) plan contributions, and/or HSA contributions. Benefit pay may also be taken as pay in lieu of benefits.

CMTM has an equitable system of pay that offers a base rate based on position, and incorporates longevity pay increases over time. This system is designed for equity and as such we do not have the ability to negotiate the compensation listed above.
