Afterschool Experiences
Whether children are inventing worlds through theatre and improv, engineering kinetic sculptures in MakerSpace, or roaring into prehistoric adventures with dinosaur science and cooking, each experience invites learners to dive in, try new things, and build confidence through joyful exploration! Afterschool Experiences are designed with the whole child in mind. The sessions create and foster collaboration, empathy, critical thinking, and self-awareness skills for children in grades K-2 & grades 3-5. Every session ends with a special family showcase so young creators can proudly share their work.

Theatre and Story Ensemble
No scripts, no limits—just imagination and play! In Theatre and Story Ensemble, kids team up to dream up stories, explore characters, and invent whole new worlds through theatre games and improvisation. Along the way, they’ll strengthen empathy, listening, and creative collaboration while building confidence as storytellers. Together, they’ll create original scenes that celebrate teamwork, creativity, and the joy of discovery. The process ends with a joyful, ensemble-created showcase for families to enjoy.

Mobiles and More!
Use CMTM’s open-ended MakerSpace materials and tools to create kinetic sculptures! Explore mediums such as wet felting, papermaking, and ceramics to make pieces for your hanging art mobile. Experiment with weight distribution and balance as you suspend your pieces from wire or wood. At the end of the last day of Afterschool, families are invited to join us in MakerSpace for a tour of our mobiles and all the crafts we create along the way.

Dinosaur Science
Roar! Explore and learn about your favorite dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures through science, art, and cooking activities. Come “hatch” dinosaurs from baking soda eggs, make some edible fossil cookies, and explode your own volcano! At the end of the last day of Afterschool, families are invited into MakerSpace Kitchen to sample some dinosaur-themed food made by the scientists.

Second Session: March 4, - April 15, 2026
Theatre Creating Ensemble
Guided by their own questions and ideas—such as “What matters to you right now?”—young artists use writing, movement, and ensemble play to bring their stories to life. Along the way, they’ll explore scene-building, poetry, and character creation, developing both literacy and creative confidence. Every rehearsal invites imagination, listening, and shared decision-making as the group learns to shape a story together. The process encourages empathy, trust, and bold artistic choices while celebrating each student’s unique voice. The session culminates in a one-of-a-kind sharing of original scenes, poems, and performances created entirely by the ensemble.

Dino Makers
Welcome to Jurassic art! Use CMTM’s open-ended MakerSpace materials and tools to design your own dinos. Build a brontosaurus, construct a T-Rex, or imagine a never-before-seen species using glue, wood, paint, found objects, and other treasures we dig up in MakerSpace! At the end of the last day of Afterschool, families are invited to explore our mini world of prehistoric creations.

Fairytale Experiments
Dive deep into the world of fairytales with STEM experiments. Make your own perfect porridge that would please picky Goldilocks, mix some fizzy magic potions, and engineer boats, bridges, and towers to help our favorite characters on their journeys. At the end of the last day of Afterschool, families are invited into the MakerSpace to explore and test the engineering contraptions made during the session.

Third Session: April 29, 2026 - June 10, 2026
Playwriting Workshop
Aspiring writers dive into the art of creating their own ten-minute plays—from first spark to final scene! Over six weeks, students explore what makes a great script: strong characters, compelling dialogue, and stories that matter to them. With sharpened pencils (or keyboards!) and plenty of time to write, they’ll experiment with structure, voice, and stage action. Along the way, they’ll read their work aloud, share feedback with fellow playwrights, and learn how theatre brings words to life. This supportive, creative space helps each writer develop confidence and craft as they prepare original plays for submission to the Youth Playwriting Festival in Fall 2026.

Mini Art Gallery
Use CMTM’s open-ended MakerSpace materials and tools to create a mini art show! Together we will build the gallery and fill its walls with tiny art. Explore mediums such as printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture on a small scale. Title your pieces of art and make a tiny version of yourself to share your work! At the end of the last day of Afterschool, families are invited to attend the opening of our mini gallery show.

Ooey Gooey Kitchen Science
Head to the kitchen to mix up some ooey gooey experiments! Mix ingredients to make slime, create some bubbly lava lamps with oil and water, and be a kitchen chemist by making your own tasty ice cream. At the end of the last class of Afterschool, families are invited into MakerSpace Kitchen to explore some science alongside their child scientists.

Afterschool Experience Policies
Refunds
We structure our classes carefully based on attendance and want to ensure that as many people as possible have access to Afterschool Experiences. If you have any questions about refunds, please contact bookings@kitetails.org
Absences
Refunds will not be issued for a missed class because a participant is sick, away on vacation, or absent for another reason.
Minimum enrollment
All classes are subject to minimum and maximum enrollment. We reserve the right to cancel any Afterschool Experience due to low enrollment. Anyone registered for such a workshop will receive a full refund.
Cancellations
Full (100%) refund up to 5 days before the start of the class (with no transaction fees).
Full (100%) refund will be offered if CMTM cancels a class due to not reaching minimum enrollment.
Inclement Weather
CMTM reserves the right to cancel an Afterschool Experience due to inclement weather. Cancellations will be made on the morning of the class. Participants will be notified of the cancellation via email. In the event that we cancel an event, the class will be rescheduled to a future date, or the participants will be given a discount code for the prorated number of missed classes to be applied to future workshops within that school year.
