JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

ADULT ACTORS FOR THE LITTLE PRINCE (TEMPORARY)

POSITION PURPOSE


The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine (CMTM) is seeking adult actors for THE LITTLE PRINCE by Rick Cummins and John Scoullar, based on the book by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. This show will be performed in CMTM’s Maddy’s Theatre in winter 2025 and will tour throughout Maine in spring 2026. 


Actors work closely with the production director, theatre artistic director, and castmates. They report directly to the Theatre Production Manager.

Character Descriptions:

  • The Aviator

  • Little Prince

  • Actor 3: Rose / Conceited Man / Lamplighter / Snake

  • Actor 4: Fox / King / Business Man / Geographer

  • Understudy: Aviator and Actor 4

  • Understudy: Little Prince and Actor 3

POSITION SUMMARY 

  • Attend rehearsals and take notes 

  • Memorize blocking and lines

  • Work as a team through the rehearsal process to develop the world of the play

  • Take notes and direction from the directing team 

  • Honor the rehearsal and call schedule, including responsible communication around conflict(s)

  • Uphold the integrity of the production through on-site performances and tours

  • Demonstrate flexibility and creative thinking in adapting the production to various performance venues

  • Uphold the values and mission of CMTM on and off stage, modeling for the audiences and youth working on productions

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Energized by CMTM’s mission and values (listed below)

  • Experience working in professional and/or community theatre settings is a plus

  • Experience working in children’s theatre is a plus

  • Dedication to creating theatre for family audiences

  • Excellent organizational and classroom management skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Available for the duration of the rehearsal and performance process. Actors will be asked to disclose conflicts, which will factor into the casting process. Additional conflicts disclosed after casting may affect your position in the show.

  • Work with kids and teens from the crew program during performances

  • Due to the universality of this story, actors fluent or semi-fluent in other languages are encouraged to apply

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF WORKPLACE / ROLE

  • High-energy performances 

  • It is expected that lines, songs, and blocking will be memorized

  • Blocking may include sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, running, squatting, jumping, and reaching.

  • There is dark blue light backstage and bright lights onstage. 

  • Noise level varies between loud and quiet.

  • Actors may be asked to assist with scene changes as needed.

  • Actors may be asked to puppeteer found-object puppetry

  • Actors will be asked to lift up to 30 lbs, and the team lift up to 50 lbs

SCHEDULE

Temporary per diem position, 8-10 hours per week in person from October 6 to December 28, 2025. 

Rehearsals take place from 6-9 PM Monday through Wednesday, with some occasional Thursdays. Tech week schedule includes additional hours.

Performances take place at 11 AM on Thursdays and Fridays, and at 11 AM and 3 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.

COMPENSATION

$18.23 / hour for all rehearsals and performances.

Touring actors are reimbursed for mileage and meals when applicable. Overnight accommodations during the tour may be provided if determined necessary by CMTM.. 

Earned Paid Leave (EPL): 1 hour of paid leave for every 40 hours worked. 

EPL earned but not used is paid to the employee at the end of the temporary employment.

CMTM has a system of pay that offers a base rate based on position. This system is designed for equity, and as such, we do not have the ability to negotiate the compensation listed above.

Auditions will be accepted via virtual submission through Friday, September 5, 2025. In-person callbacks will take place the week of September 16. Actors must submit an Audition Form to state their interest, and a member of the theatre team will provide the submission prompt.
