Request for Qualifications: Directors, Musical Directors, Choreographers, and Dramaturgs for the 2026-2027 Season

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine (CMTM) seeks production Directors, Musical Directors, Choreographers and Dramaturgs for the upcoming 2026-2027 mainstage Children’s Theatre Season. Our Mainstage Season includes Theatre for Young Audiences performed by an ensemble of adult actors as well as Intergenerational Productions performed by adult actors mentoring youth actors in our community. All performances are intended for family audiences and will include casts of varying skill levels. 

Directors, Musical Directors, Choreographers and Dramaturgs will be engaged as independent contractors and compensated through a project-based contract.

Scope of Project

The Artistic Leadership Team will work closely with the Artistic Director and Production Manager to create the world of a mainstage production, uphold the values of the organization, and maintain professional standards for our artists and audiences. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Dedication to creating theatre for family audiences

  • Excellent organizational and classroom management skills

  • Experience directing theatre for children and family audiences

  • Experience working in professional and/or community theatre settings

Schedule 

  • Production Meetings are held weekly over Zoom, a date and time to be determined by the availability of the group.

  • Rehearsals typically take place on weeknight evenings from 6-9 PM.

  • Tech week takes place during the final week of rehearsals from 6-10 PM. Tech week ends with an invited dress rehearsal.

  • The Artistic Leadership Team is not required to be at performances once the play opens.

  • Strike will take place immediately after the final performance. 

  • Specific production calendar drafts are available upon request.

Compensation

  • The director will receive a stipend of $1200.

  • Musical Directors, Choreographers and Dramaturgs will receive a stipend of $1000.

  • Stipends will be paid out at the Invitational Dress Rehearsal.
